It's Not 2016's Fault
Guys.
PLEASE.
Please stop posting things about how 2016 is a terrible year and you can't wait for it to "die" and "it's been terrible/mean/cruel to me."
Because 2016 is just a year. It is not alive, it does not have control over who died, who was elected, or how successful your love life was. It is simply a measurement of time. If you think January 1st, 2017, is going to be the start of a new time and a new chapter, it really isn't. It's just another year, another measurement of time. And it will probably disappoint just as much as 2016, 2015, and 2014, etc, etc, but that depends on your outlook and focus.
Because the elections, deaths, and tragedies that happened all happened with the influence of sin in a fallen world and within God's providence. But God has a hold on sin and on the world. He is in control and He will be every day, every month, and every year. Yes, things frustrate us and make us sad, but thinking those things will go away in our fallen world simply because another crystal ball drops in New York City is a worldly and futile hope. Instead of bemoaning the year, lay your problems before God. Instead of waiting until the next to change things in your own life, start working on them now. Instead of sitting around and complaining, get up and work toward what you want to see changed around you, or get on your knees and pray that they will change.
2 Peter 3:8: "With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."
Psalm 90:12: "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom."
Colossians 3:2: "Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on Earth."
